Windows 8 came with no Start Menu and therefore, familiar ‘Shutdown’ button is missing too. However, there is an easy workaround and you could get the Windows Shutdown button in your Taskbar and/or the Metro Start Screen.
Follow these simple steps.
Right Click on Desktop and click on New >> Shortcut
You would see ‘Create Shortcut’ screen.
‘Create Shortcut’ screen asks for location. Type in ‘shutdown /s /t 0’ (it is a numeral zero and not the alphabet O). Click ‘Next’.
Next window asks to ‘Type a name for this shortcut’. Type ‘Shutdown’ and click ‘Finish’.
Right Click on the newly formed icon ‘Shutdown’ and click on ‘Properties’.
In ‘Shutdown Properties’ window, click on ‘Change Icon…’.
Click on ‘OK’ in ‘Change Icon’ warning message. You would see all available icons in next window.
Select an Icon of your choice. I would select the ‘Power Off’ button icon.
Right Click on the ‘Shutdown’ icon and click on ‘Pin to Start’ and ‘Pin to Taskbar’. Since I had already pinned to Taskbar, this option did not show up.
