All mobile devices, specially smartphones / tablets, come with a setting called Airplane Mode. This mode, when turned on, disables all wireless / radio connections. Since it is mandatory to turn Airplane Mode ‘On’ to use your device while traveling in planes, this feature comes handy to turn off all radio connections on a flight. Windows 8, as we all know, is designed to run on PC/Laptops, Smartphones and tablets. Simply by enabling Airplane Mode in Windows 8, one could continue using Windows 8 device while flying. Since this feature is not used in daily computing, people usually are not aware of how to enable Airplane Mode in Windows 8. Following these simple steps would help enabling / disabling Airplane Mode in Windows 8.
Press Windows + I keys together on keyboard. This brings up Settings Bar on the right side of screen. Here is the screenshot:
In the above screen, click on Wireless Network Connections showing as ‘SimpleTechie…’ in the screenshot above. This opens up Airplane Mode Settings. Default setting is “Off”.
To enable Airplane Mode, simply click on ‘Off’ and Airplane Mode just turns ‘On’. This also shows ‘Wi-Fi (Off)’ and you cannot use Wireless Internet while Airplane Mode is ‘On’. Click on ‘On’ again to disable this mode.
While Airplane Mode is ‘On’, Taskbar at bottom right of screen also shows a small aero plane (where you normally see network connection)indicating Airplane Mode is ‘On’.
